Volleyball Ranked No. 1 in First Regional Rankings
By: Alex Kline, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications
INDIANAPOLIS – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team was ranked No. 1 in the first NCAA Division II West Region rankings on Wednesday afternoon, it was announced on NCAA.com HERE.
The Broncos have been off to the best start in program history, racking up a 22-1 overall record and a perfect 16-0 in conference. The team has also won 18 straight matches dating back to September 12th, and has already broken the program record for most 3-0 sweeps in a season at 16.
Should the rankings hold, the Broncos would be in a position to host their first home NCAA Tournament games in 32 years. The team has only ever hosted twice, in 1984 and 1992. CPP has made 12 NCAA Tournament appearances since their last home postseason match, and this year would mark the 20th overall NCAA appearance in program history.
The team also recently clinched the CCAA regular season title this past Saturday, sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills for their 22nd win of the season. The win secured at least a co-title, and an additional win this weekend will secure the team's first outright title in program history.
The field of 64 teams will be announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, November 25th, at 4:30 PM PST on NCAA.com. If the Broncos remain at No. 1, they'll be hosting the eight-team regional from December 5-7th.
