By: Delanie Gearing, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team was ranked seventh in the CCAA preseason poll, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

Head coach Greg Kamansky, entering his 24th season at the helm for the Broncos, looks to return the program back to the top of the conference after struggling to make the conference tournament in the past two seasons. In his 23 seasons, the Broncos have made 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, winning the DII national title in 2009-10.

Despite facing injuries during the 2023-2024 season, the team is looking forward to the upcoming season with enthusiasm, fueled by both returning players and new talent.

"We're adding some strong transfers and freshmen this season," said Kamansky. "Our focus will be on integrating them into the team dynamic to ensure we perform at our highest potential on the court."

The Broncos are set to welcome back vital players, including forward Michael Ofoegbu, guard Malcolm Bell, and center Kevin Simeth, all of whom were instrumental during the 2023-2024 season. Shyheim Parm, who contributed significantly in the 2022-2023 season but missed last year due to injuries, will also be making his return. Additionally, transfer guards Demarreya Lewis-Cooper and Zach Broadous are expected to play key roles in strengthening the team.

"Our team is smaller than usual, but seems more focused and driven, which will be key to our success," said Kamansky. "We look forward to maintaining our positive culture and playing good team basketball."

The Broncos will kick off the season at the CCAA/PacWest/GNAC Challenge against Azusa Pacific on Friday, November 8th at 5:30 PM. Their home opener will be against Biola on Saturday, November 16th at 3:00 PM. The Broncos begin CCAA Conference play at Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, November 30th at 3:00 PM.
