Broncos Secure 3-1 Win Over Cal State San Bernardino to Close Regular Season on Top

POMONA, Calif. –  The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos capped off their regular season with a strong 3-1 victory over Cal State San Bernardino. The win further secured their spot atop the conference standings as they head into the postseason.

The game got off to a fast start with the Broncos taking a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute. A perfectly delivered cross from Auburn Burnett found Angelina Rivas, who headed the ball past the Coyotes goalkeeper to give CPP the early advantage. Tara Oper also earned an assist on the play.

In the second half, Cal State San Bernardino responded quickly, tying the game at 1-1 just 1:19 into the second half. The Coyotes capitalized on a scramble in front of the Broncos' net to even the score, but CPP would regain control shortly thereafter.

At the 51:18 mark, Rivas struck again. This time, a shot from Rivas found the back of the net to put the Broncos ahead 2-1. Then, in the 63rd minute, Liberty Ortiz added an insurance goal for the Broncos, with another assist from Oper, extending the lead to 3-1. Ortiz's goal capped off a dominant offensive performance by Cal Poly Pomona to secure a victory.

The Broncos finished the match with a commanding 10 shots on goal, compared to just one shot on goal for Cal State San Bernardino. Key contributions from defenders Bella Anderson, Giselle Samayoa, and Lindsay Sung ensured that CPP's defense held firm, preventing the Coyotes from mounting any sustained offensive pressure.
