No. 3 Volleyball Remains Undefeated in Conference With 17th Straight Win
POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona volleyball battled out a tough win on Friday night, defeating No. 24 Cal State LA three sets to one to pick up their 17th consecutive win. The Broncos remain undefeated in CCAA action at 15-0, while continuing their best start in program history at 21-1 through their first 22 matches. The team is also an incredible 6-0 against nationally ranked opponents this season.
The Broncos won the first set in comfortable fashion by a score of 25-14, thanks in large part to an eight-point run that put CPP ahead 21-7. The team also swung a match-best .323 with just one attack error to Cal State LA's eight.
The second set was nothing short of impressive, seeing the Broncos erase a nine-point deficit for an emphatic 26-24 win. After trailing 12-3 to open the set, the Green & Gold rattled off five consecutive points to bring the set back within four. The two squads would trade blows until the score sat 22-19 in favor of the Golden Eagles. A kill by Sarah Ybarra and back-to-back aces by Samantha Campion then gave the Broncos a 23-22 lead. Two attack errors and a bad set by LA would end the set, sealing the Broncos' impressive comeback win.
The third set didn't start well for the Broncos, as Cal State LA jumped right back out to a 9-1 lead. Cal Poly Pomona would chip away, bringing the score within five, but ultimately fell short 25-19. Surprisingly, this was the first time all season that the team had lost a set by more than three points. The loss also marked the end of CPP's set win streak, lasting an incredible 29 consecutive sets dating back to October 5th.
The fourth set, which had become somewhat unfamiliar territory for the No. 3 Broncos, proved to not be much of a challenge. After a close start, the Broncos began to pull ahead with an 11-4 run in the middle of the set. Three consecutive kills from Campion and Ybarra would end the match, handing the Broncos their 17th straight win.
Ybarra led the team with 18 kills, while Charlotte Koerber also contributed 11. An impressive five Broncos entered double digits in digs, as the team's 68 in the match was their third-most this season.

The Broncos will play their last regular season home match tomorrow, November 9th, against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The team will also honor their seven seniors in a ceremony taking place before the match.
