Volleyball Clinches First CCAA Regular Season Title Since 2005
POMONA, Calif. – For the first time since 2005, Cal Poly Pomona volleyball has won the CCAA regular season title! Their 3-0 win against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday night secured at least a co-championship, and just one win next week will secure an outright regular season title. San Francisco State remains two games behind the Broncos with two games to go, and the regular season finale being a head-to-head matchup between the two teams in San Francisco.
CPP is now 22-1 overall and a perfect 16-0 in conference play, while also finishing 9-0 at home during the regular season. In the past four seasons, the Broncos are a combined 43-4 (.915) in home matches. This certainly bodes well for them hosting the CCAA Tournament and potentially the NCAA West Regionals in the coming weeks.
The 2024 squad is entering exclusive territory in the context of program history. Among the many milestones already reached this season, the Broncos just tied the program record for most conference wins in a season at 16. The only other team to reach that win total was 2005, when the Broncos went 16-2 in CCAA matches. Their 3-0 sweep against CSUDH marked the 16th sweep of the season, also breaking the program record for most in a season.
The win against the Toros was also their 18th straight, having not lost since September 12th to Central Washington. With one more win, the Broncos will tie the program record of 19 consecutive victories.
Sarah Ybarra led the attack with 16 kills on Saturday, while Charlotte Koerber added 14 with an impressive .500 hitting percentage. Avery Percival logged 20 digs, her second-most of the season and the 11th time she has collected at least 20 in her CPP career. The match was the epitome of consistency, as the Broncos won all three sets by a score of 25-16, for their eighth consecutive victory agains the Toros.
