All Five Fall Sports Nationally Ranked in Top 20 for First Time Ever

POMONA, Calif. - For the first time in department history, all five Cal Poly Pomona fall sports are nationally ranked in their respective Top 25 polls at the same time. Men's cross country is ranked 19th, women's cross country is 18th, men's soccer at 18th, volleyball at eighth, and women's soccer tied a program high with a ranking of No. 2 in the nation.
With an overall record of 26 wins, two losses, and three ties, the department's .887 winning percentage reflects the hard work and dedication of the coaches, athletes, and staff. This exceptional start is also the best in department history. The Broncos have already seen numerous accolades as well, celebrating 11 CCAA Athletes of the Week, currently the most in the conference.
Cal Poly Pomona's teams look to maintain this success as they enter the second half of the fall season and prepare for the postseason.
No. 19 Men's Cross Country
- At the Old Glory Gallop, three Broncos entered the CPP Record Book, running the 14th (Tom McDonnell), 18th (Juan Ramos), and 23rd (Evan Franco) fastest 8K times in program history.
- So far this season, six Broncos have run personal best times in the 8K.
- Evan Franco and Tom McDonnell were recognized as CCAA Runners of the Week.
- Broncos swept the Coyote Challenge on September 7th to kick off the season.
- Took second place out of 41 teams at the Old Glory Gallop.
No. 18 Women's Cross Country
- At the Old Glory Gallop, Vivian Martinez's time of 17:24 is the third-fastest in school history. Jade Kingston and Galilea Jimenez's times also rank in the Top 25 in school history.
- So far this season, nine Broncos have run personal best times in the 6K.
- Broncos swept the Coyote Challenge on September 7th to kick off the season.
- Took second place out of 46 teams at the Old Glory Gallop.
No. 18 Men's Soccer
- CPP is 57-16-20 (.720) overall under sixth-year (fifth season) head coach Matt O'Sullivan, who on September 22nd, became the winningest coach in program history.
- Luke Garciduenas and Woody Angell have been recognized as CCAA Athletes of the Week.
- CPP is 72-23-18 as a nationally-ranked program since 2002, including 34-10-17 under O'Sullivan and 6-1-2 in 2024.
No. 8 Volleyball
- For the past four consecutive seasons, including 2024, CPP has owned a 12-1 record through their first 13 matches.
- The Broncos' eight-game winning streak is the longest in the CCAA, second-longest in the west region, and the seventh-longest in the nation.
- Avery Percival became the ninth Bronco to record 1,000 digs in her CPP career.
- Caitie Mueller has been recognized twice as the CCAA Setter of the Week.
- Sarah Ybarra was recognized as National Player of the Week on September 10th. She earned CCAA Athlete of the Week recognition.
- Caitie Mueller and Sarah Ybarra were named part of the Yotes Classic Showcase All-Tournament Team.
- Madison Novak and Caitie Mueller were named part of the Central Washington Invitational All-Tournament Team.
- The Broncos won the first match against Cal Poly Humboldt in the brand new Cal Poly Clash rivalry.
No. 2 Women's Soccer
- The Broncos continue their best start in program history with a record of 8-0-1.
- Women's soccer defeated No. 1 Point Loma, the first time in program history they have defeated the top team in the nation.
- The Broncos tied their highest national ranking in program history in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll. The only other time they were ranked No. 2 was to start the 2000 season, following their 1999 national runner-up finish.
- Marisa Salazar, Bella Hara, Tara Oper, and Liberty Ortiz were recognized as CCAA Athletes of the Week.
