Women’s Cross Country Gallops Into Second Place, All Seven Runners Set Personal Bests

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – All seven runners for the Cal Poly Pomona women's cross country team set personal bests in the 5K race on Saturday morning, leading to a team runner-up finish in the Old Glory Gallop in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Broncos were the highest finisher of any Division II school in the race, losing only to Rice University.
Cal Poly Pomona was one of only two schools to average less than 18:00 in the race, coming in at 17:59.2 as a team. All seven Broncos finished in the Top 40 of the race, in a field of 420 runners.
Vivian Martinez led the team with a historic performance, running the third-fastest 5K time in school history at 17:24 – which is also the fastest time since 1986. Her pace of 5:36 per mile is also the third-fastest of any race in school history.
Jade Kingston and Galilea Jimenez also entered the CPP record book, running the ninth and 19th fastest 5K times in program history, respectively.

The Broncos will have their final regular season race on Saturday, October 19th, at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite. The CCAA Championships will take place in Fresno the following weekend on October 25th.
