Volleyball Ranked No. 4 in the Nation, Highest Ranking in Program History

By: Alex Kline, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Cal Poly Pomona was ranked No. 4 in the AVCA Top 25 Poll on Monday afternoon, marking the highest national ranking in the program's history. The team had been ranked as high as No. 5 three different times, in 1990, 1992, and most recently as last week.

Cal Poly Pomona has been nationally-ranked for the entire 2024 season thus far, putting together an impressive 18-1 overall record while remaining perfect in conference play with a 12-0 CCAA record. Their 14 consecutive wins also ties the second-longest winning streak in program history, and is the fourth-longest active streak in the country.

"The highest ranking in program history recognizes our team's success," said sixth-year head coach Traci Dahl. "The team has been laser focused, detail-oriented, and rewarded for winning! It is a privilege to earn a spot in the Top 5 as the #4 nationally ranked team in the country, undoubtedly a testament to the team's hard work and dedication."

The No. 4 ranked Broncos haven't just been winning, they've been dominating. Since the start of the season, the team has won 56 of the 64 sets they've played in, resulting in 13 sweeps. This includes sweeping the second, third, and fourth place teams in the CCAA. Cal Poly Pomona has lost just three sets since the start of CCAA play on September 20th, outscoring conference opponents 36-3.

"Every day we take the court, these women continue to impress," continued Dahl. "They are truly a joy to be around and make it very easy to coach. Currently, we are at a point where we have a sense of urgency, bringing the same intensity into practice as we have during matches."

On Saturday, the first-place Broncos became the first team in the conference to clinch a berth into the CCAA Tournament. The event will be held in Kellogg Arena on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona from November 21st-23rd, as the Broncos had already received the bid to host before the start of the season. This will be the first time the tournament has ever been hosted at CPP since its inception in 2015, and the sixth time the Broncos have made an appearance overall. The Green & Gold look to hoist another trophy after claiming the tournament title in 2022.

"The Broncos are executing high level plays and consistently bringing it into competition," concluded Dahl. "This season's success is not only a result of having really good players and executing at a high level, but the genuine appreciation each player has for one another."

The team looks to continue their winning ways with a four game homestand over the next two weeks.
