Ha Breaks Three-Point Record, Season Ends in Regional Quarterfinals
AZUSA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team fell to No. 16 Western Washington on Friday afternoon by a final score of 61-66, eliminating CPP from the NCAA Tournament and ending their 2023-24 campaign with a 20-10 overall record. This season was the 32nd time the Broncos have reached the 20-win mark in their 49-year history.
Breanne Ha rewrote the record book against Western Washington on Friday, making her 72nd three-pointer of the season to break the Cal Poly Pomona single-season record. The milestone had been held by Anna James for 23 years, having made 71 during the 2000-01 season. Both players finished with exactly 30 games played in their respective seasons, with Ha shooting .356 from deep and James shooting .366. Coincidentally, both also finished with exactly 90 rebounds. Ha would go on to make one more trey in the game, elevating the new single-season record to 73. Her last attempt beyond the arc was also her 205th of the season, breaking Ariel Marsh's 204 tries during the 2014-15 season.

The Broncos saw multiple names enter the record book this season, as freshman Sydney Nelson had the sixth-most offensive rebounds in a season with 101. Junior Kalaya Buggs also entered the Top 10 in free throws made in a season, sinking 158 to tie Reyana Colson (2009-10) for the sixth-most in a season in school history. Buggs' eight made free throws against the Vikings also ties the 10th most in a game for CPP when playing in the NCAA Tournament.
Cal Poly Pomona saw four players in double figures in the regional quarterfinal, the same four who led the team in scoring on the season – Nelson, Buggs, Ha, and Jeanette Fine. After a competitive first half, the Broncos came out hot in the third quarter, outscoring the Vikings 19-14 to bring the game to 50-49 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
Skylar Dillon would tie the game at 50-50 with a free throw in the opening minute of the fourth, but the Green & Gold would fail to break even again in the final nine minutes. The game would conclude with a final score of 61-66, ending the Broncos' 2023-24 campaign. No. 16 Western Washington advances to the regional semifinals, where they will play No. 24 Cal State San Marcos.
