Men’s 4x400 Relay Breaks 52-Year Old Record at Bryan Clay

AZUSA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team saw seven Top 10 performances in school history this past weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Saturday, including breaking the 52-year old school record in the 4x400 relay by nearly a full second. Their performance in Azusa also included 11 personal records, with nine NCAA provisional qualifying marks.

  RECORD BOOK WATCH  

  • The 4x400 relay team broke the school record with a time of 3:09.66. The previous mark of 3:10.54 had stood since 1972, just over 52 years ago.
  • Lorenzo Boyd is 5th all-time in the 200 meters at 21.12 seconds
  • Alessio Sommacal is now 2nd all-time in the 400m hurdles at 50.85 seconds
  • The 4x100 relay team ranks 3rd in school history at 40.42. Three of the four members helped break the school record earlier this season at 40.20.
  • Both Darius Hill and Kailen Smith now rank second all-time in the high jump after each reached 2.13 meters. This is the highest mark of any Bronco since 1982.
  • Darius Hill also reached 7.29 meters in the long jump, ranking 6th in school history.
