Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach Tyler Frierson to Speak at WBCA Convention

By: Alex Kline, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications

CLEVELAND – Cal Poly Pomona assistant women's basketball coach, Tyler Frierson, will be speaking at the WBCA convention in Cleveland, Ohio this week. The second-year assistant coach was selected to present a roundtable session on Post Play & Why It's Important. WBCA roundtables follow a "TED Talks" format, allowing speakers 15 minutes to lead a topic of discussion among other coaches.

Over the past two seasons, Frierson has aided the Broncos to back-to-back CCAA Tournament and NCAA Tournament appearances, including a 38-21 (.644) overall record. The Broncos have also seen six players receive All-CCAA honors, as well as Kalaya Buggs being named a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention just last month.

Frierson played four seasons at the NCAA Division I level at Wright State, as well as one season at the University of Memphis. While a member of the Raiders, Frierson was named to the All-Horizon League Third Team, Horizon League All-Tournament Team, and 2X Horizon League All-Defensive Team. She is among the Top 10 in program history in games played, field goal percentage, total rebounds, and blocked shots. The Long Beach native also led the Raiders in rebounding in both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
