Men's Track & Field Earns Five Provos at Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The men's track and field team picked up five more NCAA provisional qualifying marks on Saturday at the Triton Invitational. In total, the Broncos saw seven Top 5 finishes and six personal records.
The 4x400 relay team won their event, finishing with a time of 3:11.70 for the fifth-fastest in school history. The 4x100 relay team and Kailen Smith both finished second in the respective events, with Smith tying a career-high at 2.11 meters in the high jump. That mark was already second in school history, and is the highest of any CPP athlete since 1982.
Both Matteo Madrassi and Ian Strode earned provisional qualifying marks in the pole vault, finishing fifth and seventh in the event.

- Kailen Smith tied his personal best of 2.11 meters in the high jump, which already ranked second all-time in school history.
- The 4x100 relay team of Lorenzo Boyd, Deandre Smith, Ekene Onwaeze, and Joshua Johnson ran the fourth-fastest time in school history at 40.48 seconds.
- The 4x400 relay team of Jake Tilford, Leroy Crook, Camden Patterson, and Ryan Fields ran the fifth-fastest time in school history at 3:11.70.

- Ryan Fields Captures 15th Career CCAA Track Athlete of the Week AwardFor the fourth time in the past six weeks, Cal Poly Pomona's Ryan Fields has been named the CCAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 15-21. Fields becomes the 40th CCAA Athlete of the Week for CPP during 2023-24, making the Broncos the first school to ever reach 40 in an academic year. Fields now has 15 CCAA Athlete of the Week awards in his career, nearly doubling the previous conference record of eight. His sister, Ayana, is also now second in conference history with nine in her career.
