By: Alex Kline, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications
POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's and women's cross country teams are ready for the 2024 CCAA Championships, taking place this Friday, October 25th, at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Hosted by Sonoma State, the meet determines the conference's individual and team champions, will start with the men's 8,000 meter race at 9 a.m. and conclude with the women's 6,000 meter race that is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start time, mirroring the NCAA Division II Championships order. This will be the first time in the conference's history that the championships will be held in Fresno.
Woodward Park is a popular site for many championship events, including CIF and Community College Cross Country Championships. The site was the location of the 2023 PacWest Championships and Stanislaus State hosted the 2002 NCAA Division II West Regional Championships at Woodward Park.
The men's team looks to break Chico State's streak of 21 consecutive CCAA titles, as the Broncos have finished in second place in each of the past three seasons, and eight of the past 10 championships. Running for the men will be Leandro Candray, Christian Coley, Evan Franco, Tom McDonnell, Juan Ramos, Chris Razo, and Ethan Romero.
The women's team looks for their first CCAA Championships title, having finished in the Top 5 of the CCAA in each of the past four seasons. Running for the women will be Chloe Alchin, Julia Butler, Bridget Edwards, Arissa Hatcher, Lauren Jauregui, Galilea Jimenez, Jade Kingston, Vivian Martinez, Paige Moore, and Miranda Palacios.
