Broncos' Defense and Timely Scoring Lead Them to Triumph Over Golden Eagles
LOS ANGELES - The Broncos came from behind to earn a hard-fought 48-46 victory over the Cal State LA Golden Eagles in a thrilling contest.
The game started with the Broncos trailing 11-1 just six minutes into the first half. However, a quick timeout seemed to spark the team as they adjusted and began their climb back into the game. By the nine minute mark of the half, the Broncos had taken their first lead of the game, 16-14. From there, the Broncos maintained a slim advantage, but the Golden Eagles stayed within striking distance. At halftime, the Broncos held a narrow 26-25 lead, with eight different players contributing to the scoring in the first half.
The Broncos came out of the break determined to keep the pressure on, but Cal State LA took control early in the second half, retaking the lead just three minutes in. The Golden Eagles kept their momentum, staying in front for the majority of the half. However, with nine minutes remaining, Jordan Carpenter tied the game at 35-35, bringing the Broncos back into the contest. The Golden Eagles quickly regained the lead, but the Broncos were relentless in their pursuit of the advantage. A key jumper by Shyheim Parm gave the Broncos a 40-38 lead, but Cal State LA responded with a quick basket to tie it at 40-40.
The game continued to be a back-and-forth affair, with neither team willing to back down. With just 1:44 left, the score was tied again at 46-46. At that crucial moment, Miles Lewis hit a turnaround jump shot to give the Broncos a 48-46 lead with less than two minutes remaining. The Golden Eagles had a final chance to retake the lead in the closing seconds, but Demarreya Lewis-Cooper made a game-sealing steal with just three seconds left, ensuring the Broncos' victory.
Lewis-Cooper led the Broncos with 11 points, followed by Jaden Winfield with 9. Kevin Simeth and Carpenter each grabbed seven rebounds. The Broncos controlled the game for 44.3% of the time, with their largest lead being six points in the final minute of the first half.
