Winfield’s Double-Double Propels Broncos to 78-73 Overtime Thriller
POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos secured a thrilling 78-73 victory over the Sonoma State Seawolves in an intense battle that went into overtime.
The Broncos started strong, establishing a lead early on. Their largest lead came at the 12-minute mark, where they were up by nine points. They maintained control for the majority of the first half, though with six minutes remaining, the Seawolves managed to tie the game at 22-22. From there, the two teams exchanged points, but the Broncos ended the half with a slight 35-32 lead. During the first half, Cal Poly Pomona led for 82.2% of the time, and the game was only tied once.
The second half saw the Broncos quickly extend their lead, holding on for a good stretch before the Seawolves started to chip away. With just over 10 minutes remaining, the game was tied at 49-49. However, the Broncos pushed back and regained an 11-point lead with 3:36 left on the clock. Despite the effort, the Seawolves weren't backing down. With just over a minute left in regulation, Cal Poly Pomona's lead was down to only two points, and with 14 seconds remaining, the game was tied, forcing overtime.
In overtime, the Broncos regained their momentum and slowly built their lead. With a minute left, they secured a few more crucial points, ultimately walking away with a hard-fought 78-73 victory.
Jaden Winfield had an outstanding performance, recording a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Shyheim Parm contributed 21 points to the win.
