Broncos Rally in Second Half to Beat Warriors
POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos secured a convincing 67-47 victory over the Stanislaus State Warriors in a hard-fought game, improving their record and tying their win total from last season.
The game started with the Broncos trailing the Warriors, and for much of the first half, the teams exchanged leads. Just six minutes into the game, the Broncos managed to edge ahead of the Warriors, but the game remained close with the score tied multiple times. With less than five minutes remaining in the first half, Stanislaus State managed to pass the Broncos, briefly taking the lead. From that point on, the two teams continued to trade baskets, ending the half in a 32-32 deadlock.
In the second half, the Broncos came out strong, slowly building their lead. Just five minutes into the period, they had surged ahead by 10 points, and they would maintain that cushion for the remainder of the game. The Broncos' defense and efficient scoring kept the Warriors at bay, and with 2:40 remaining, they had stretched their lead to a commanding 22 points.
Sam Hunter was the standout performer for the Broncos, finishing with 19 points, including five three-pointers. Caleb Nelson contributed 11 points, and Shyheim Parm was a force on the boards, grabbing 9 rebounds. As a team, the Broncos led for 72.5% of the game, a testament to their dominance, and the game was tied just six times.
With this win, the Broncos have now matched their win total from last season and are off to their best start since the 2019-2020 season.
