Ryan Fields Named CCAA Male Athlete of the Year

By: CCAA

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - The CCAA Sports Information Directors have selected Cal Poly Pomona's Ryan Fields as the 2023-24 CCAA Male Athlete of the Year.

Fields closed out his highly decorated career by putting together his best season as a Bronco. The senior from Los Angeles collected his career-best finish in the 2024 NCAA Men's Track Field Championships, placing second in the 400-meter hurdles. He added a second first-team All-American honor with a sixth-place finish in the 110m hurdles.

He helped lead Cal Poly Pomona to its third consecutive CCAA Championship and was voted the CCAA Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year. He won his second consecutive 110m hurdles title and just missed three-peating in the 400m hurdles, finishing second to teammate Alessio Sommacal

Fields finished with the fastest 400m hurdles time in Division II this season. He registered a mark of 49.96 at the Franson Last Chance Meet and is the only student-athlete to go under 50 seconds in 2024. His season-best time of 13.64 placed him sixth on the 2024 Performance List in the 110m hurdles.

The CPP and CCAA record books are also scattered with his name after his incredible senior season. Fields broke three Cal Poly Pomona school records in the 110m hurdles (13.64) and the 400m hurdles (49.96). He anchored the 4x400 relay team that broke a 52-year-old school record with a time of 3:09.66. His performances garnered four CCAA Track Athlete of the Week awards, bringing his career total to a CCAA-record 15.

Fields becomes the seventh Bronco to be named CCAA Male Athlete of the Year, and the first since Justin Ellerbee in 2014-15. In the conference's history among both men and women, he is the 13th individual to earn CCAA Athlete of the Year honors, the most recent having been his sister, Ayana Fields, in 2022-23.
