Men’s Cross Country Places Fourth at West Regionals

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's cross country team placed fourth in the NCAA West Regional 10K on Saturday morning in Billings, Montana. The team averaged 31:28 in the race, just three seconds behind the third-place time that would've earned the team an automatic qualification in nationals. Now, the Broncos must await the NCAA Selection Release on Monday morning.
The team has now finished in the Top 5 of the West Regionals in each of the past six seasons.
Leandro Candray repeated as the top finisher for the Broncos, running 31:07.3 and averaging 5:01.2 per mile. His time is the 27th fastest time in program history in an NCAA West Regional, as he earned a 16th place finish in the race. Having finished in the Top 25 of the race, both Candray and Tom McDonnell earned All-West Region honors.
McDonnell and Juan Ramos also cracked the Top 50 fastest times in a west regional race, running 31:18.8 and 31:26.0, respectively.

The NCAA Selection Release will come out on Monday morning before 12:00 PM. Given that the Broncos just missed out on earning an automatic qualification, they are likely among the top teams to be considered for an at-large bid into the national championships in Sacramento. It would be the team's 24th appearance at nationals.
