No. 8 Volleyball Sweeps East Bay for Ninth Straight Win

POMONA, Calif. – The Broncos picked up their eighth sweep of the season on Friday afternoon, taking all three sets against Cal State East Bay for their ninth straight victory. Cal Poly Pomona remains on top of the CCAA standings with a perfect 7-0 conference record.

The Broncos beat the Pioneers in just about every facet of the game, seeing more kills, digs, blocks, and a hitting percentage over .100 points higher. Despite low hitting percentages in the first and third sets, the Broncos swung an impressive .417 in the second set.

Charlotte Koerber, Samantha Campion, and Sarah Ybarra led the attack, teaming up for 26 of the Broncos' 39 kills. Alexia Athans and Caitie Mueller each collected five kills as well, while Athans improved her team-leading attack percentage to .376 on the season.

Three Broncos finished with double-digit digs, that being Campion, Ybarra, and Mueller. After recording a season-high 11 digs last week at Sonoma State, Mueller finished with 10 more against East Bay. That is just the sixth time in her CPP career she has recorded double-digit digs in back-to-back matches. Mueller also finished with 23 assists, passing Katie Colin (2010-13) for seventh-most in program history.

Helen McMullin had a strong performance at the net, setting a career-high with three solo blocks and one assisted block. She ranks second on the team in every blocking category behind Athans, and 10th in the CCAA in total blocks.

About Dig Pink
Friday was CPP's annual Dig Pink game, where the fans, staff, and team wore pink in honor of those that have been affected by breast cancer.

"The Side-Out Foundation helps people with breast cancer regain control of their lives – and we started our fundraising efforts through the sport of volleyball. Our Executive Director and Founder, Rick Dunetz, was a high school volleyball coach when his mother, Gloria, was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. Together he and his father, Bryant, decided to tell her story, and the story of all those with metastatic breast cancer, through dedicated volleyball matches across the U.S., where communities would rally and fundraise to support breast cancer research. This is how Dig Pink was born – and it is still a central program of The Side-Out Foundation." Learn more HERE.
