Broncos Clinch Back-to-Back CCAA Titles with Dominant 2-0 Win Over Seawolves
POMONA, Calif. - In a thrilling showdown, the No. 4 ranked Cal Poly Pomona Broncos secured their second consecutive CCAA Regular Season Championship with a decisive 2-0 victory over the Sonoma State Seawolves.
With two games left in the regular season, the Broncos showcased their dominance, highlighted by standout performances from Chloe Green and Auburn Burnett. Green made her mark in the 64th minute, scoring her first goal as a Bronco and the decisive game-winner, thanks to a perfectly timed assist from Tara Oper. Just moments later, Burnett extended the lead in the 70th minute, capitalizing on a setup from Marissa Salazar for her second goal of the season.
Defensively, the Broncos were relentless, with Bella Hara earning her tenth shutout of the season, making three crucial saves to keep the Seawolves at bay. The defensive unit, featuring Bella Anderson, Giselle Samayoa, Lindsay Sung, Liberty Ortiz, and Georgia Rink, played a key role in maintaining the clean sheet, effectively neutralizing Sonoma State's offensive efforts.
The Broncos dominated the match, firing off 22 shots with 9 landing on goal, while the Seawolves managed 7 shots, only 3 of which tested Hara.
With this victory, the Broncos solidified their status in the conference tournament, celebrating their first back-to-back regular season titles. The team will look to carry this momentum into their final game of the regular season, aiming to finish on a high note as they prepare for the postseason.
