Anthony Mizrahi Elevated to Assistant Coach for CPP Baseball
By: Alex Kline, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications
POMONA, Calif. – Anthony Mizrahi has been hired as an assistant coach for the Cal Poly Pomona baseball program, it was announced by head coach Randy Betten. Mizrahi had most recently been serving as a program associate with the Broncos since the 2020 season, helping lead the team to an overall record of 109-74 (.596) and three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances during that span.
"I'm excited for Anthony Mizrahi to be hired on as an assistant coach," said Betten. "He's meant a great deal in helping our program move forward during his time as a player, and as a member of our coaching staff. He is very passionate about helping the student-athletes reach their full potential in the classroom and on the baseball field."
The La Cañada native is an alum of Cal Poly Pomona, having been a relief pitcher for the Bronco baseball team from 2017-2019. During his time as a student-athlete, Mizrahi made 23 appearances on the mound, throwing 20.1 innings and striking out 18 batters with a 1-1 record.
"I'm really excited for this new role and the responsibilities that come with it," said Mizrahi. "Working with Coach Betten and Coach Torres has been an incredible experience and I feel very fortunate they chose me to fill the role. CPP has always been a very special place for me since I started my undergrad and began my coaching career."
In 2018, he picked up his first win at Stanislaus State, going 2.0 innings in relief. During the 2019 season, Mizrahi helped the Broncos capture their second CCAA Tournament title in program history, and had a scoreless outing against nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific in the NCAA West Regionals. He was also named to the CCAA Spring All-Academic Team in 2019.
"The coaching staff is filled with amazing people," added Mizrahi. "I also love the support and care that comes from the entire athletic department. I'd like to thank [Director of Athletics] Brian Swanson for the opportunity as well. He does a great job running the department and I look forward to working with him, and everyone else, moving forward."
Before Cal Poly Pomona, Mizrahi played two seasons at Pasadena City College from 2015-2016. He threw 64.0 innings for the Lancers in 29 appearances, recording three wins and four saves with a 3.23 ERA. He also struck out 55 batters, good for a 7.73 strikeout-per-nine ratio.
