Broncos Upset No. 24 Chico State, Winfield Shines With Double-Double

POMONA, Calif. - In a thrilling battle on the court, the Cal Poly Pomona emerged victorious, defeating No. 24 Chico State 65-54. The Broncos started strong, jumping to an early 5-0 lead. However, the Wildcats quickly found their rhythm and began to chip away at the lead. With 12:31 remaining in the first half, the game was all tied up at 12-12.

Chico State took advantage of some key possessions, eventually pushing ahead and holding a narrow 32-30 lead at the break. Despite the deficit heading into the second half, the Broncos came out aggressive, immediately tying the game up at 32-32.

From there, it was a back-and-forth battle with both teams exchanging the lead multiple times. Midway through the second half, with 13 minutes left on the clock, the Broncos managed to push ahead by 10 points. However, the Wildcats weren't about to back down and began to claw their way back into the game.

Despite the Wildcats' efforts, the Broncos maintained a comfortable 6-point cushion for the majority of the final stretch. Cal Poly Pomona's defense stood tall when it mattered most, holding off Chico State and securing the win.

Jaden Winfield was a standout for the Broncos, posting a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Demarreya Lewis-Cooper contributed 13 points and 5 assists, playing a key role in keeping the offense flowing. The Broncos led for 58% of the game and managed to keep the lead despite the tight back-and-forth.
