Liberty Ortiz Named CCAA Defensive Player of the Week

For the second time this season, Cal Poly Pomona's Liberty Ortiz will earn the honor as the FloCollege/CCAA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
In the regular season finale on Thursday, Ortiz scored one of three goals to lead the No. 4 ranked Broncos to a solid 3-1 win over Cal State San Bernardino. As a midfielder, Ortiz helped hold the Coyotes to just one shot and one score. Her goal came in the 64th minute during a 2-1 match that help seal the deal for the regular season conference champions.
The junior from Chino Hills was the CCAA Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24 after leading Cal Poly Pomona to a pair of road wins against RMAC teams. This is Ortiz's third career weekly honor.
Cal Poly Pomona has the third best defense in terms of goals allowed with just 12 in 18 matches this season (9 in 11 conference matches). The Broncos have recorded league-best 10 shutouts. Click here to see the complete CCAA stats leaders
The No. 4 ranked Broncos (14-1-2) has a bye as the No. 1 seed in the CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament in Arcata, Nov. 15-17. They will face either Cal Poly Humboldt or Stanislaus State in the semifinals on Nov. 15.
