By: Delanie Gearing, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications
INDIANAPOLIS - The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team was ranked No. 1 in the first NCAA Division II West Region Rankings on Wednesday, it was announced on NCAA.com HERE.
The Broncos recently clinched the CCAA regular season title with a 7-1-2 conference record and a 14-1-2 overall record. In addition to CPP, there are three other CCAA schools in the Top 10; Cal State LA, Cal State San Marcos, and Cal State East Bay.
Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer is having its best season in program history, matching its highest-ever national ranking at No. 2. The Broncos started the season with a win over No. 1 Point Loma and have stayed in the Top 10 nationally ever since.
The Broncos last made the NCAA tournament in 2019, in which they fell to Point Loma in the first round. While the team has reached the NCAA Tournament five times, they have only advanced to the finals on one occasion. They will need to win the CCAA Tournament in Arcata, Calif. next week to obtain the conference automatic bid, or remain in the Top 6 of the West Region Rankings to earn an at-large bid. Should the rankings remain the same, the Broncos would be the No. 1 seed and be hosting rounds one and two of the NCAA Tournament (Nov. 22-24).
The field of 48 teams will be announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, November 18th at 4:00 PM PST on NCAA.com.
