Mads Frederiksen Becomes Seventh CPP Elite 13 Award Recipient
By: Alex Kline, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications
HAYWARD, Calif. – Mads Frederiksen is the recipient of the 2024 men's soccer Elite 13 Award, it was announced before the CCAA Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon.
Frederiksen becomes the seventh Bronco to win the award, after Marisa Salazar also earned the honor for women's soccer just a few hours before in Arcata. It is just the second time multiple CPP student-athletes have received the Elite 13 Award in the same academic year, let alone in the same season and on the same day.
The Elite 13 Award, formerly known as the CCAA Championship Scholar Award, honors the exceptional academic and athletic achievements of a student-athlete. This prestigious recognition is given to the individual who not only competes at the highest level in their sport, reaching the conference championship, but also maintains the highest academic standing among their peers.
Established in the 2017-18 academic year, the award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the final CCAA championship site in each conference-sponsored sport.
Frederiksen has shined in both the classroom and on the pitch, posting a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.90 as a Business Administration major. The junior from Denmark was named to the All-CCAA Second Team earlier this week, the second straight season he has received all-conference honors. He is also a two-time CCAA All-Academic honoree, and was named CCAA Offensive Player of the Week just last Friday.
In 17 games played this season, Frederiksen has scored four goals with three assists and one game-winner. Three of his four goals came in three consecutive games from October 25th to November 3rd, helping the Broncos secure their first regular season title since 2018. His 1,047 minutes played is the most of any forward on the CPP roster this season.
Frederiksen becomes the first men's soccer player in Cal Poly Pomona history to win the Elite 13 Award.
