SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team pulled off an impressive comeback win against Cal State San Marcos on Thursday night, erasing a once 21-point deficit to remain undefeated in conference play. With the win, CPP improves to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
The Broncos started off slow, being outscored 20-7 in the first quarter. The Cougars extended their lead in the second quarter to a high 21-points with the score at 32-11. Head coach Danelle Bishop called a timeout at 6:37, which would prove to be a pivotal moment in the game. Cal Poly Pomona immediately began to turn the game around, going on a 13-3 run in the final six minutes of the half.
The Green & Gold did not stop there, outscoring CSUSM 23-9 in the third quarter – nine points coming off turnovers - to take the lead. They continued that momentum with 30 points in the fourth quarter, ultimately winning by a score of 77-64.
Breanne Ha stole the show in the comeback victory, scoring all 20 of her team-leading points in the second half. This performance included going 6-for-11 beyond the arc, putting her just 30 away from breaking the school record.
An impressive five Broncos scored in double figures in the game, including Sydney Nelson, Kalaya Buggs, Mydrea Moore, and Cookie Marques. The team had even contributions on the boards, seeing multiple rebounds from eight players.
