Men’s Soccer to Make 10th NCAA Tournament Appearance
By: Alex Kline, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications
INDIANAPOLIS – For the ninth consecutive season, and the fifth time under head coach Matt O'Sullivan, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team is headed to the NCAA Tournament with hopes of earning the program's first national title.
As the No. 7 seed in Super Region 4, they'll travel to Wichita Falls, Texas this coming Friday, November 22nd, to face No. 10 seed Westmont in their first-ever NCAA Tournament game. Should the Broncos win that match, they'll advance to the Second Round on Sunday, November 24th, to face No. 2 seed Midwestern State on their home pitch. Both matches would take place at 3:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM PST.
The Broncos are coming off their second straight CCAA Tournament Finals appearance, falling to Cal State Dominguez Hills in penalty kicks. As a result, the Broncos received an at-large bid into the 2024 NCAA Tournament, their 10th appearance in program history. They look to return back to the Final Four, having made three appearances in a four-year stretch from 2015-2018.
Match Preview
This will be the first official meeting between Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer and Westmont, as the Warriors recently transitioned to NCAA Division II from NAIA in 2023-24. The Broncos are coming off their first CCAA regular season title in the Matt O'Sullivan-era with a 12-1-7 overall record, while the Warriors are 12-4-4 on the season and PacWest Tournament Champions - receiving the automatic bid into the tournament.
