ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The Broncos secured a thrilling 88-80 victory in double overtime over the Sonoma State Seawolves in their third CCAA conference match-up of the season. The game was a thrilling back-and-forth affair, with both teams battling through intense moments and shifting momentum, keeping the outcome in suspense until the very end.
The Broncos came out hot, racing to an 11-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Despite their early dominance, the Seawolves slowly found their rhythm, narrowing the gap. For most of the first half, Cal Poly Pomona maintained a double-digit lead, going into the break with a commanding 40-26 advantage. However, the Seawolves weren't ready to roll over and came out of halftime with renewed energy.
The Broncos continued to hold a comfortable lead for much of the second half, but with about 10 minutes remaining, Sonoma State began to surge, gradually chipping away at the deficit. As the game neared its final minutes, the Seawolves made a late push, eventually tying the game at 67-67 with 33 seconds remaining. A quick bucket by the Seawolves forced the game into overtime.
In the first overtime, Demarreya Lewis-Cooper gave the Broncos an early lead with a clutch 3-pointer. However, the Seawolves responded, tying the game with just over a minute left. With 8 seconds remaining in the first OT, Lewis-Cooper put the Broncos ahead again with a tough basket, but Sonoma State answered in the final second, sending the game into double overtime at 72-72.
The Broncos took control in the second overtime, quickly jumping ahead with a five-point contribution from Shyheim Parm, a clutch 3-pointer from Jaden Winfield, and six points from Malcom Bell. Lewis-Cooper added another two points to seal the deal, and the Broncos held off the Seawolves to finish with an 88-80 victory.
