Eagles Outscore the Broncos in Home Opener

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos suffered a narrow 83-79 loss to the Biola Eagles in a hard-fought contest on Saturday. Despite a strong start and key contributions from several players, the Broncos couldn't hold off a late surge from the Eagles, who took control in the final moments.

The game opened on a high note for the Broncos, who jumped out to a 9-0 lead just four minutes in. While Biola began to find their rhythm, the Broncos maintained control, leading for the majority of the first half. At halftime, CPP held a 42-37 advantage, with Shyheim Parm leading the charge, contributing 14 of those points in the opening period.

However, Biola came out with renewed energy in the second half. Less than two minutes into the period, the Eagles tied the game at 45-45, setting the stage for a thrilling back-and-forth battle. From there, both teams traded baskets, with neither side able to build a significant lead. The game was tied at 69-69 with just 5 minutes remaining, before the Eagles began to pull ahead.

With the score at 81-79 in favor of Biola with 54 seconds left, the Broncos had one last chance to tie or take the lead, but the Eagles sealed the win with two clutch free throws to finalize the score at 83-79.

Shyheim Parm was the standout performer for the Broncos, finishing with a team-high 24 points. Zach Broadous added 16 points, while Caleb Nelson contributed 11 points, and Miles Lewis chipped in 10. Despite a strong team effort, the Broncos couldn't quite match the late-game execution of Biola.
