Best Start in Program History, Broncos Set Record With Eighth Straight Sweep

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team won their 16th consecutive match on Saturday afternoon, improving to 20-1 on the season to mark the best start in program history through 21 games. The previous best start through the same amount of games had been 19-2, set by the 2005 squad that had a historic 19-0 start. The Broncos' 16 consecutive wins is the second-longest winning streak in program history, behind only that 19-0 start in 2005.

Cal Poly Pomona's 3-0 sweep of Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday also broke the program record for more consecutive sweeps in a row with eight, as they have not lost a set since October 5th- nearly a month ago. It was their 15th sweep of the season, also tying a program record for most in a season.

Samantha Campion shined against the Jacks, leading the team in both kills (11) and digs (15) while swinging at a .310 clip. The senior also recorded six aces in the match, the second-most in school history during the 25-point scoring format (since 2008), to bring her career total to an even 100. Campion is now 154 kills and 50 digs away from 1,000 in her CPP career in both categories – in just her third season as a Bronco.

Sophomore Alexia Athans also impressed with six kills in eight attempts, good for a .750 attack percentage while adding two blocks. Her .341 hitting percentage on the season currently ranks third in the conference.

Caitie Mueller added on 33 assists, bringing her career total to 2,896. The San Clemente native is now less than 100 assists away from moving into fifth all-time in school history. Mueller has now had seven consecutive matches with 30 or more assists.

It's safe to say the No. 4 ranked Broncos have found their rhythm as a team, winning the three sets by scores 25-13, 25-19, and 25-18. The Green & Gold have lost just three sets since the start of CCAA play, outscoring opponents 42-3 in sets won. They were very consistent in their attacks throughout the match, posting hitting percentages of .300, .290, and .282 in each of the three sets. Both teams had 100 attempts, the Broncos landing 40 kills to the Lumberjacks' 29.

Cal Poly Clash
