Winfield Scores Career-High 21 Points Against Otters

POMONA, Calif. - Jaden Winfield led the Broncos past the Otters on Thursday night with a career-high performance of 21 points with seven rebounds, going 9-for-13 (.692) from the field and 3-for-4 (.750) from beyond the arc. Winfield has reached double figures in ten games this season, including his first 20-point game against Concordia on November 25th. The St. Louis native ranks third on the team in points this season, just 11 points away from surpassing his last year's total.

After six lead changes in the first nine minutes, a lay-up and trey by Jordan Carpenter secured the lead for the Broncos - they would hang on to it for the rest of the game. Scoring 40 points in the first half, Cal Poly Pomona shot 53% from the field to put them well above their season average.

The Broncos controlled the pace early in the second half, outscoring Monterey Bay 15-2, Bam Johnson accounting for 10 of those points. This run by the Broncos proved to be a challenge for the Otters, as they were unable to score for seven minutes. The Broncos converted defense to offense, recording nine steals on the night to produce 12 points off turnovers to gain their largest lead of the night by 19 points. The Otters registered zero steals on the night and trailed the Broncos with only four points off turnovers.

Brandon Porter reached double figures for the 15th time this season and Johnson added 13 points with four assists on the night. Kevin Simeth led the team down low with ten rebounds and Malachi Murrell tallied three blocks.

The game would conclude with a 72-63 score, handing the Broncos their ninth win of the season.
