Broncos Come Up Short in Final Road Game

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team came up short against San Francisco State on Saturday afternoon, losing by a score of 52-60. With the loss, the Broncos fall to 8-15 on the season and 7-12 in CCAA play.

Chris Gayles Jr. and Jaden Winfield led the Broncos in scoring, making 12 and 11 points respectively, while also each making two treys. This was Gayles' sixth double digit scoring effort of the season while it was Winfield's ninth.

Bam Johnson and Brandon Porter each contributed seven points and five rebounds in the contest, while Johnson led the team with three assists. Sophomore Malachi Murrell also scored eight points against the Gators, while contributing five boards and two steals.

The Broncos struggled to find the basket, making just 31 percent of their shots from the field while attempting their fourth-most shots of the season at 60. The Gators didn't shoot particularly well either, going 40 percent from the floor. However, SFSU's 43 percent shooting in the second half compared to CPP's 36 percent propelled them to a late lead.

The game was tied 25-25 at the end of the first half. In the opening minutes of the second half, the Broncos' took a 31-28 lead on a Gayles' three pointer. The Gators responded 10 seconds later with a trey of their own to even up the game. San Francisco State would eventually gain the lead for the final time with 13:11 to go, and would maintain that lead for the 60-52 win.
