Men’s Track & Field Opens CCAA Championships in First Place

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team sits in first place in the CCAA Championships after Day 1, accumulating 35 points across three events. The Broncos set 13 personal records, including Gavin Hanes setting four PR's in the decathlon.
Thomas Tuff, Francisco Zavaleta, and Mar'Agen Fowler each had podium finishes in their respective events, earning All-CCAA honors. Ryan Fields and Lorenzo Boyd both finished first in the prelims, with Boyd's time of 21.08 ranking fifth-fastest in school history.

This mark was also good for first place in the event, making Hill the CCAA Champion. Smith and Justin Cardoza also had podium finishes in the long jump, leading to a complete sweep of the event for the Green & Gold.
- Ryan Fields Captures 15th Career CCAA Track Athlete of the Week AwardFor the fourth time in the past six weeks, Cal Poly Pomona's Ryan Fields has been named the CCAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 15-21. Fields becomes the 40th CCAA Athlete of the Week for CPP during 2023-24, making the Broncos the first school to ever reach 40 in an academic year. Fields now has 15 CCAA Athlete of the Week awards in his career, nearly doubling the previous conference record of eight. His sister, Ayana, is also now second in conference history with nine in her career.
- Ryan Fields Breaks Own School Record at Mt. SAC RelaysRyan Fields broke his own school record on Saturday afternoon, running 13.64 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles to beat his previous personal best of 13.75. His new mark now ranks fourth in the entire nation this season, while ranking first in the CCAA. The Broncos reached 10 NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Mt. SAC Relays, while also setting seven personal records.
