Women’s Basketball Takes Down Seawolves, Remains Undefeated in Conference Play

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team won their seventh consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, defeating Sonoma State by a score of 57-50. With the win, the Broncos remain perfect in conference play at 3-0, while improving to 7-1 on the season.

Sydney Nelson turned in her sixth consecutive game scoring double digit points, while also recording her first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Cookie Marques added 11 points to the scoresheet, her second-most of the season. Veterans Breanne Ha and Kalaya Buggs each contributed nine points, while going a combined 11-for-12 from the charity stripe.

Nelson's season-high eight offensive rebounds made a big difference in the game, as the No. 25 ranked Broncos outscored the Seawolves 19-7 in second chance points. The team's 22 offensive rebounds came one short of their season high against Hope International, while their 49 total rebounds was also their third-best of the season.

Despite scoring their second-fewest points in a game this season, the Broncos showed up when it mattered. Ahead by just three points to open the fourth quarter, the Green & Gold never surrendered the lead while also never extending it to more than seven.

Ahead 49-46 with just 43 seconds left in the game, Ha nailed her only trey of the game, giving the Broncos some crucial separation in the final seconds. Four made free throws by Ha and another by Brielle Minor would seal the win, as the Broncos secured their third straight victory against the Seawolves dating back to February.
