Broncos Hold Off Gators in Final Moments for 64-62 Victory

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos came out on top against the San Francisco State Gators in a hard-fought 64-62 victory. The game featured back-and-forth action, with both teams battling for control until the final buzzer.

The Broncos wasted no time jumping out to an early 7-0 lead, but the Gators quickly regrouped and started to chip away at the deficit. Despite San Francisco State's best efforts, Cal Poly Pomona maintained a narrow advantage through much of the first half. With eight minutes remaining in the opening period, the Broncos had extended their lead to 13 points, up 22-9.

However, the Gators showed resilience and closed the gap in the final five minutes of the half, heading into halftime with the score at 31-28 in favor of the Broncos.

Coming out of the break, San Francisco State was determined to even the score. Less than two minutes into the second half, the Gators gained a one-point lead, 32-31. But the Broncos responded quickly, tying the game just a minute later, setting the stage for an intense second half.

For the next 11 minutes, both teams remained within five points of each other, exchanging buckets and defensive stops. It wasn't until seven minutes left on the clock when Cal Poly Pomona started to slowly build a slight lead. Yet, San Francisco State refused to back down, continuing to fight for control.

With less than three minutes remaining, the game was as close as it could be, with the Broncos holding a slim 59-58 lead. Both teams added a few points, but with 26 seconds remaining, Cal Poly Pomona still held onto a 63-62 advantage. In the final moments, the Broncos sealed the win with a free throw, pushing the score to 64-62 and ensuring the victory.

Every Bronco player scored in the contest, with Jaden Winfield leading the way with 16 points. The team's shooting percentage improved in the second half, a key factor in their ability to hold off the Gators' late-game charge.
