Women’s Basketball Wins Third Straight, Defeat Hope International 75-52
FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball cruised to a 75-52 victory at Hope International on Saturday afternoon, improving to 3-1 to start the season. This was just the second meeting all-time between the two teams, the Broncos winning both games on the road.
Sophomore Mydrea Moore had a standout performance for the Green & Gold, scoring a career-high 14 points to go along with a career-high nine rebounds. Sydney Nelson led the scoring with her second consecutive game contributing 17 points. Alexis Woodson also reached double digits for the first time in her CPP career, as the junior transfer from Stanislaus State scored 10 points.
The Broncos came out of the gate hot, scoring 17 points in the first quarter to take a quick 17-8 lead. The team extended that lead with 13 more points in the second quarter, going into halftime ahead 30-17.
CPP continued to gain separation in the third quarter, scoring 10 points off turnovers to contribute to a season-high 26 points in the quarter. Nelson was a catalyst for the big quarter, scoring nine of her points and going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
The bench helped seal the win in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 of the 19 points for the Broncos in the final quarter. The Broncos continued to shoot well in the game, going 41 percent from the floor and 15-for-18 (.833) from the line. Jeanette Fine added seven points to the total, while Brielle Minor, Cookie Marques, and Kalaya Buggs each contributed six.
