Women’s Basketball Collects 21st Win, Most Since 2019
POMONA, Calif. – After a close first half that saw the Broncos ahead by just one by the end of the second quarter, Cal Poly Pomona outscored San Francisco State 45-24 in the second half to come away with a dominant 71-49 win. It was the team's 21st win of the season, marking the most in a season since the 2018-19 campaign. With the win, the Broncos improve to 16-3 in conference play, maintaining a two-game lead over Chico State for second place in the CCAA standings.
After a closely contested first half, the Broncos exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Gators 23-10. Kalaya Buggs led the charge with an all-around stellar performance, posting 18 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals. She shot an efficient 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and was perfect from the free-throw line. Buggs' .819 shooting from the charity stripe this season ranks first in the CCAA.
Khamiyah Anderson was a force in the paint, dominating the boards with a team-high 17 rebounds to go along with nine points. Her presence helped the Broncos outrebound San Francisco State 55-27, leading to 25 second-chance points.
Breanne Ha and Cookie Marques provided valuable contributions from deep, each knocking down multiple three-pointers to stretch the defense. Marques came off the bench to add 12 points, while Alexis Woodson provided a spark with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Ha now has 62 made three's on the season, and is on pace to break her own school record of 73 set just last year.
The Broncos' defense was relentless, forcing 27 turnovers and converting them into 24 points. Their defensive intensity stifled the Gators, holding them to just 31.4% shooting from the field and 20% from three-point range.
