CPP Athletics Launches New Website
By: Alex Kline, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications
POMONA, Calif. – For the first time since 2019, the Cal Poly Pomona Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has launched a redesign of BroncoAthletics.com. In partnership with SIDEARM Sports powered by Learfield, the new website went live on Wednesday morning.
"We are very excited to introduce a reimagined BroncoAthletics.com," said Assistant Athletics Director for Communications Alex Kline. "With this new design, we had three main focuses: improved navigation on desktop and mobile, creative ways to celebrate the history of the department, and a visual refresh that coincides with our department's brand vision moving forward."
The website should have a familiar feel for many users, as the interface for the core features – such as schedules, rosters, and stats – have not changed. The most notable changes took place in the menu and on the home page, while also improving the mobile experience. In a recent analytics report of BroncoAthletics.com from December of 2023, it showed 64 percent of users visited the website via their mobile device, up from 52 percent in 2019 and 23 percent in 2014.
"The website is an important tool for everyone involved with CPP Athletics," commented Kline. "The staff, coaches, fans, student-athletes, and parents all use it to access information for the department's 11 programs. Therefore, we need that information to be presented in the most efficient way possible. We believe this new design accomplishes that goal, while also elevating our ability to share even more content in the future."
- The main menu has been condensed into three categories – Sports, Fans, and Athletics. Every corner of the website can be accessed from one of these three dropdowns, simplifying the navigation experience.
- The mobile menu has been overhauled to allow for quicker access to high-traffic pages.
- A new calendar icon on the mobile menu allows users to easily view upcoming games and tune into live events.
- By The Numbers has been added to the home page of the website, as well as the home page for each sport. This section displays key accomplishments, awards, and accolades.
- A History tab has been added to the gold navigation bar for each sport. This tab houses interactive pages that update in real time. Once a game has been completed and the box score is added to the website, pages such as "Coaching History" will immediately reflect up-to-date coaching records. These pages will be available for win-loss-tie sports, including baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball.
- Under the Fans tab on the main menu, a page has been added called On This Day. This page allows fans to relive athletics scores and stories that happened on the same date in year's past.
- Under the Athletics tab on the main menu, a new section has been added called Tradition. This houses links relevant to the history of the department and will be expanded upon moving forward.
- A score ticker has been added below the main menu where live event links can be accessed. Games with a green arrow have been completed, while a gold arrow signifies live/upcoming events. As you visit each sport on the website, the score ticker will automatically adjust to only show that sport's events.
- Other new (or refreshed) areas include: Follow The Broncos, Season Records, Quick Links, and Broncos Videos on the home page.
"I want to thank Zach Moquin, Ryan Henry, Tina Bowman, and the rest of the SIDEARM Sports staff for their help in bringing this new design to life," added Kline. "Their responsiveness and ability to implement our ideas over the past few months has been nothing short of impressive. They continue to prove why they are the leader in digital fan engagement in the college athletics industry."
This is the second redesign of the official Cal Poly Pomona Athletics web site since September 24, 2014, when the Broncos unveiled the current logo and visual identity. The most recent redesign came on January 9, 2019; one that focused on making the website more responsive across all devices. CPP Athletics has partnered with SIDEARM Sports as its official athletics web site provider since October 20, 2009.
