Broncos Advance Out of Prelims, Ready for Championship Saturday

EMPORIA, Kansas – The Broncos concluded day two of the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships on Friday, seeing four Top-10 finishes and advancing to the finals in three separate events. Cal Poly Pomona is now set for a loaded season finale, as they will compete in seven different events on Championship Saturday.
Ayana Fields placed eighth in the 200 meter dash on Friday, running a time of 23.48 seconds to sneak into the Top 8 of the event by just one-one hundredth of a second. She will now compete in the finals of three separate events tomorrow, including the 400 meters at 1:15 PM, 200 meters at 2:50 PM, and the 4x400 relay at 4:00 PM (all times PDT).
Ryan Fields and Alessio Sommacal ran in the 110 meter hurdle prelims, with Fields placing fourth at 13.79 seconds, and Sommacal placing 10th at 14.16 seconds. Fields will now compete in both the 110m and 400m hurdle finals tomorrow at 12:45 PM and 2:10 PM PDT.
The 4x400 women's relay team of Jaelyn Thomas, Ari Milton, Yuna Queniat, and Ayana Fields had a photo finish in their preliminary race, finishing with a time of 3:40.42 to NARROWLY defeat UT-Tyler at 3:40.43. Even though the Broncos had the ninth-best time in the race, because they finished second in their heat, they earned an automatic qualifier into the finals. They will be the final event of the championships tomorrow at 4:00 PM PDT.
