POMONA, Calif. – The No. 15 ranked Broncos won in convincing fashion on Thursday night, defeating Cal Poly Humboldt 69-34 in the second iteration of the Cal Poly Clash. With the win, the Broncos improve to 17-2 overall and 12-1 in conference, maintaining a three game lead over third place Chico State and trailing undefeated Cal State Dominguez Hills by just one game.
 
The victory marked head coach Danelle Bishop's 202^nd CCAA win, tying Renee Jimenez for the most in the conference's history. With just one more win, Bishop will become the winningest coach in CCAA games in the history of the conference. There was a lot of reason to celebrate on Thursday, as the team also honored Breanne Ha before the game for breaking the all-time three-point record.

The Broncos set the tone early, outscoring the Lumberjacks 21-14 in the first quarter and never looking back. Despite a sluggish second quarter, where both teams struggled offensively, Pomona held a 33-23 advantage going into halftime.
 
In the second half, the Broncos ramped up the defensive intensity, limiting Humboldt to just seven points in the third quarter and an even stingier four points in the fourth. The Broncos' defense forced 20 turnovers and converted them into 22 points, while also controlling the glass with a 47-39 rebounding edge. Their 34 points allowed is the fewest in a game since December 29, 2017, when they allowed just 31 against Cal State Monterey Bay.
 
Kalaya Buggs led the way for CPP, pouring in a game-high 19 points on an efficient 6-for-12 shooting, including five three-pointers. Sydney Nelson was dominant as well, adding 17 points while shooting 8-for-10 from the field. Breanne Ha contributed nine points, all from beyond the arc, while Mydrea Moore chipped in eight points and five rebounds.
 
The Broncos' ability to convert second-chance opportunities played a major role, as they scored 20 points off offensive rebounds. Their bench also provided a lift, outscoring Humboldt's reserves 12-5. Meanwhile, the Lumberjacks struggled to find any rhythm, especially in the fourth quarter, where they managed just one field goal on 16 attempts.
 
 
Cal Poly Clash
For men's and women's basketball, the team that claims the most head-to-head wins in a given season will claim the full point toward the rivalry. If the teams split the season series (e.g. one to one), then each will receive half a point.
 
With the win on Thursday night, CPP women's basketball has claimed at least 0.5 points, as they are 2-0 head-to-head this season and could only possibly play Humboldt two more times in the CCAA and NCAA Tournament. This means the Broncos currently own 5.5 points out of the possible 10 in the rivalry, securing the inaugural Cal Poly Clash title.
