- $2.5 Million Grant to Strengthen Pipeline for Engineering and Computer Science CareersA group of local school districts, community colleges and Cal Poly Pomona are the recipients of a $2.5 million grant to prepare more underrepresented students to complete college degrees and find careers in engineering and computer science. The grant comes from the L.A. Region K-16 Collaborative, convened by the nonprofit UNITE-LA, and focuses on closing racial and gender gaps in postsecondary education and building equitable pathways to careers in healthcare, engineering and computer science across Los Angeles County. - Students See Legal System at Work Through Judicial InternshipPolitical Science Senior Kyle Chao knew he wanted to pursue a career in human rights law and was looking for internship opportunities when he heard about the Judicial Internship Program at Cal Poly Pomona. He applied for the spring 2022 session of the program hoping to not just see what lawyers do on the job but also the role of clerks, transcribers, bailiffs and others who help keep courtrooms running. - UCLA Report Explores Race and EducationCal Poly Pomona Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership Liane I. Hypolite recently co-authored the fourth report in a series of papers from UCLA’s Civil Rights Project. The inception of this research study was prompted by growing concerns over legislation threatening to limit the discussion of racial history in classrooms. In response to pushback and bans from legislators, the report aims to empower educators with the knowledge and tools needed to teach race effectively and address the contentious issue of teaching race in schools.
