Cal Poly Pomona's Marco Malerba has been selected as the CCAA Baseball Player of the Week, for the week of April 8-14.
Malerba went 7-for-14 with three extra-base hits while driving in six runs to lead the Broncos offense. Cal Poly Pomona took two of three games from Cal State San Marcos as the battle for the top half of the CCAA standings continues. The series finale was called due to rain and will be made up at a later date. CPP also played a non-conference game against Point Loma last Tuesday.
The junior first baseman from Glendora posted a slugging percentage of .786 with an on-base percentage of .533 for a solid 1.319 OPS. Against CSUSM, Malerba went 6-for-10 in the three games, including a 5-for-8 day during Saturday's doubleheader. He was 3-for-4 with two doubles and drove in two runs in the Broncos' 6-5 win in the nightcap. His two-run double in the fifth helped CPP start the comeback, erasing a five-run deficit before prevailing in extra innings. He went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs in game one as part of the Pomona offense that pounded out 12 hits in a 11-1 win.
