Broncos Explode for 35-Point Victory Over Otters
POMONA, Calif. – The Broncos exploded for 90 points against Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday night, tying a season-high in points scored for their 13th win of the season. No. 19 ranked Cal Poly Pomona remains tied for second place in the CCAA standings with an 8-1 conference record, and now have nine straight wins against the Otters dating back to 2019.
Cookie Marques shined in the win, scoring a season-high 24 points while making a team-high four treys. Sydney Nelson (14) and Breanne Ha (11) also contributed double-digit scoring, Nelson with her 13th consecutive game in double figures and Ha inching closer to the career three-point record. With three more on Thursday night, Ha is now only eight away from tying Anna James at 215, and nine away from breaking the school record.
All 10 Broncos that touched the court scored in the win, including a nine-point performance from Aaliyah Wright and eight points from both Kalaya Buggs and Mydrea Moore. Khamiyah Anderson led the way with nine boards, five offensive and four defensive. The team's 56.7 percent from the floor and 53.3 percent beyond the arc were both their best shooting performance of the season.
The Broncos scored at least 22 points in three of the four quarters, coming in all but the second quarter. CPP dominated every aspect of the game from start to finish, including 26-11 in points off turnovers, and more importantly, a dominant 54-16 on points inside the paint. In the end, the No. 19 ranked Broncos earned their ninth straight win against the Otters with a 90-55 victory, improving to 13-2 on the season.
