Cal Poly Pomona to Host 2027 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Cal Poly Pomona has been selected to host the 2027 Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, located just around the corner from campus in Walnut, California. This will be the fourth time in department history that CPP has hosted the DII Track and Field National Championships, having also done so in 1980, 2004, and 2008.
"Cal Poly Pomona is excited and honored to once again host the NCAA Division II Women's & Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in 2027," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Brian Swanson. "The student-athletes who qualify for this championship will be competing in a new world class facility, and we trust this experience will be a lifetime memory. We are thrilled for the student-athletes, coaches, families, and fans that will be attending and experience the greater Los Angeles area in May 2027, and in particular the San Gabriel Valley."
Hilmer Lodge Stadium, known as Mt. SAC Stadium until its renaming in the 1990's, was built in 1948 and has since undergone multiple renovations. Hilmer Lodge, the first track and field coach at Mt. San Antonio College, founded the famous Mt. SAC Relays in 1959, one of the nation's premier meets every spring. Over 20 world records have been broken at the venue, while the site has also been home to the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, United States Women's Olympic Trials, and the Pac-12 Track and Field Championships.
The venue was completely renovated from 2018-2020, and now has a seating capacity upwards of 12,500. Hilmer Lodge Stadium features a Tifgreen Bermuda Natural Grass Field, an IAAF Certified 9 Lane (48") Beynon Full-Pour Polyurethane Track, and a practice track with three 48" lanes. A Full Color 40'X90' Daktronics LED Videoboard stands at the south end of the stadium, while Musco LED Lighting allows for night competition.
The 2027 championships will take place Thursday, May 27th, through Saturday, May 29th. Nearly 1,000 student-athletes, coaches, and administrators will take part in the event, with thousands more spectators and media members expected to make the trip to Southern California for the championship event.

"We are looking forward to hosting a great championship for competitors across all of Division II, but also to give our Cal Poly Pomona athletes a chance to compete close to home. I also want to thank everyone at Mt. SAC for working with us on this bid at their wonderful Hilmer Lodge Stadium."
The Cal Poly Pomona men's and women's track and field programs are no strangers to competing on the national stage, as the two programs have a combined 20 individual national titles and 256 All-Americans – nearly half of the department's total in both categories.
About the Bid Process
The Association chose over 240 host sites for preliminary and final rounds of predetermined championships across Divisions I, II and III, primarily for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons. This cycle marked a shift from a four-year to a two-year site selection process.
The NCAA received more than 1,200 bids from member schools, conferences, cities and sports commissions across 47 states and Washington, D.C., all competing to host predetermined rounds for 87 of the NCAA's 90 championships. The respective NCAA sports committees selected the sites, with final approval from the divisional competition oversight and championships committees.
"The enthusiasm and interest from around the country to host NCAA championships continues to be a testament to the quality of our events," said Lynda Tealer, NCAA senior vice president of championships. "For this cycle we incorporated more data into the process to help our sport and oversight committees through the evaluation and selection of sites as we had so many quality venues and locations looking to host during these two seasons. We will continue to evaluate and gather feedback on going from the traditional four-year cycle to awarding championship bids for two years to determine the right cadence for the bid process in the future."
