Bronco Relay Records Fastest Time in the Nation at Beach Opener

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos delivered an outstanding performance at the Beach Opener, hosted by Cal State Long Beach, on March 7th-8th. Several athletes stood out with remarkable performances, earning NCAA Division II provisional marks and securing top national rankings.
The Broncos' 4x400 relay team of Joshua Morinaga, Leroy Crook Jr., Camden Patterson, and Alessio Sommacal stole the show with a time of 3:12.81, earning the NCAA Division II Provisional mark. Their performance not only secured the provisional mark but also positioned them as the fastest 4x400 relay team in the nation.
The hurdles saw a pair of Broncos shine. Nnamdi Onwaeze dominated the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a personal best of 14.07 to take first place. His performance also earned him an NCAA DII Provisional mark and solidified his position as the third fastest in the nation. Alessio Sommacal followed closely with a time of 14.19, which also earned him the NCAA DII Provisional mark and secured him the fifth spot in the national rankings.
In the field events, Collin Joyce delivered a remarkable performance in the triple jump, finishing fourth with a mark of 14.81m. This effort earned him the NCAA DII Provisional mark and placed him third in the nation. Kailen Smith took third place in the high jump with a mark of 2.06m, also earning the NCAA Provisional mark and securing the second spot in the national rankings.
In the pole vault, Jered Beasley claimed sixth overall with a new personal best of 4.93m, earning an NCAA DII Provisional mark. This mark also vaulted him into seventh place in the program's history and placed him fifth in the nation.
