Senior Day Sweep, Broncos Win 6th Straight

POMONA, Calif. – The Broncos won their sixth straight game on Sunday, completing the series sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills with a 12-0 shutout and improving their overall record to 28-17 on the season. Their six straight victories ties a season high, as they also won six straight from March 29th to April 7th.

Cal Poly Pomona remains 0.5 games behind Cal State San Marcos in the CCAA standings, however, since the Cougars have already played their final regular season game, the Broncos control their own fate next weekend. If CPP loses the series against the Yotes or splits 2-2, then San Marcos or Monterey Bay will finish in first place. If the Broncos go 3-1, they will claim at least a shared title (which would require Monterey Bay to sweep their series). If the Broncos win all four games in San Bernardino, they will win the CCAA regular season title outright.

Evan Adolphus was lights out on the mound, not allowing a hit until the fifth inning. The junior out of Fullerton finished with nine strikeouts, zero runs, four hits, and did not surrender any walks. The Bronco pitching staff was automatic this weekend, allowing just five combined runs across all four games. That is the fewest runs allowed in a four-game series since at least 1996. Their +33 run differential on the weekend also ranks third in that span.

The bats were alive and well, collecting 15 hits while scoring 12 runs. Marco Malerba went 4-for-4 with a double, raising his batting average to .335 on the season. Johnny Pappas and Jack Sanders each collected three hits, with Sanders coming just a double short of the cycle. The San Diego native hit a blistering 1.756 OPS against the Toros, while driving in 13 RBI with three home runs in the four game series.

Senior Day
Before the game, the Broncos honored 13 seniors for their contributions to the CPP baseball program. Those seniors were Aren Alvarez, Carlo Flores, Cedrick Perez, Caleb Reyes, Tyler Chaffee, Bobby Hook, Nick Lugo, Jacob Lopez, Luke Watson, Noel Soto, Johnny Pappas, and Drew Atherton.
