Porter Scores 22 in 65-78 Loss to Pioneers

HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team fell to Cal State East Bay on Thursday night, losing by a score of 65-78. With the loss, the Broncos fall to 8-14 on the season and 7-11 in CCAA games.

Brandon Porter shined for the Broncos, scoring 22 points while going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. This was Porter's sixth game this season scoring 20 or more points, as the senior leads the team with 295 points on the year.

Freshman Malcolm Bell joined Porter in scoring double figures, tying a career-high 11 points with a team-leading six rebounds in the contest.

The two teams were relatively close in shooting, the Broncos going 48 percent from the floor and the Pioneers shooting 49 percent. The key differences came in points off turnovers, in which CSUEB outscored CPP 30-12 in the game, and points inside the paint, where CSUEB outscored CPP 42-26.

After the Broncos held the lead for the first 10 minutes of play, the Pioneers gained control and never let go. The game came back within two points on a fastbreak Bell trey with 17:21 to go in the second, but slowly slipped away in the remainder of the half. The game would conclude with a 65-78 score, handing the Broncos their 14th loss of the season.
