Broncos Dominate Cougars 80-50 in CCAA Showdown
POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos put on a dominant performance, defeating the Cal State San Marcos Cougars 80-50 in a thrilling CCAA matchup.
The Cougars initially held the lead, but after a few minutes, the Broncos started to gain momentum. At the 13:39 mark in the first half, the game was tied at 9-9. From there, the Broncos began to push ahead, but the Cougars weren't going down without a fight, and the lead exchanged hands a few times.
As the first half wound down, the Broncos found their rhythm and were able to regain the lead, ending the half up 38-27.
Entering the second half, the Broncos knew they needed to keep their foot on the gas. They quickly extended their lead to 21 points in the opening five minutes. The Cougars continued to fight, but the Broncos maintained their commanding lead. With just under 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Broncos had pushed their advantage to 29 points, effectively sealing the win.
Cal Poly Pomona finished strong, securing the 80-50 victory. The win puts the Broncos in a two-way tie for fifth place in the conference with four games remaining.
Sam Hunter was the standout player, leading the Broncos with 18 points. The Broncos also made the most of their defense, scoring 21 points off turnovers compared to the Cougars' 12. In the paint, the Broncos were dominant, scoring 40 points while limiting the Cougars to just 10.
