Broncos Claim 20th Win, Advance to CCAA Semi’s

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team came out victorious in their CCAA Tournament quarterfinal game against Sonoma State on Thursday afternoon, winning in convincing fashion by a score of 74-45. This win also marked the 32nd time they have reached the 20-win mark in their 49-year history, now owning a 20-8 record on the season.

Four Broncos scored in double figures on Thursday, with Jeanette Fine leading the way at 16 points. Breanne Ha was close behind with 15 of her own, making four threes while leading the team with 35 minutes on the court. Reina Sausedo and Sydney Nelson were the other two scoring 11 and 10, respectively, while both led the team with eight rebounds a piece. CCAA Freshman of the Year Nelson has now scored 10 or more points 24 of her first 27 collegiate games.

Both teams kept the game close throughout the first quarter, seeing the Broncos narrowly ahead 14-11 after the first 10 minutes of play. Cal Poly Pomona then gained some big separation in the second quarter, with their lead reaching as high as 18 points in the final minute of the half at 37-19.

CPP expanded on that lead in the second half, never seeing it drop below 20 points for the remainder of the game. The team shot over 42 percent in every single quarter, their best quarter coming in the fourth at 54 percent. On the game, the Broncos shot 45 percent from the floor, 28 percent beyond the arc, and 77 percent from the line – each better than the Seawolves.

The Broncos cruised to the 74-45 win, their 20th of the season and improving their overall record to 20-8.
