Bishop Picks Up 250th Victory in 63-59 Win over Concordia

IRVINE, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball head coach Danelle Bishop picked up her 250th career win in the Green & Gold on Saturday afternoon, as the Broncos defeated the Golden Eagles by a score of 63-59 in Irvine. With the win, CPP improves to 4-1 to open the season as they prepare for the start conference play.

Bishop, who spent seven seasons as the head coach of Azusa Pacific and California Baptist prior to joining CPP, now has 388 total wins in her coaching career, ranking 27th- most among active NCAA Division II coaches. Her 250 wins ranks second-most in program history, behind only Cal Poly Pomona coaching legend Darlene May at 520.

Sydney Nelson, Mydrea Moore, and Jeanette Fine each scored in double figures on Saturday, making up 47 of the team's 63 points. Nelson, who is the reigning CCAA Freshman of the Year, has now scored 17 points in three consecutive games. Hunter Hudson led the team with seven boards, a new career-high in her redshirt freshman campaign.

The Broncos shined on points inside the paint, outscoring Concordia 42-28 in such chances. A tightly contested first half saw the Golden Eagles ahead 31-29 headed into halftime. However, the Broncos surged back in the third quarter, gaining the lead in the first two minutes and holding on to it for the remainder of the quarter.

CUI would not go away easy, tying the game at 50-50 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. A layup by Nelson at the 7:26 mark would put the Broncos ahead, which they would hang on to for the final minutes of the game.
